My name is Timothy Boomer, and I am an award-winning natural history photographer who specializes in producing professional quality images of insects, spiders and flowers. While I am in awe of all of God's designs, I have a true passion for these smaller subjects whose intricate details are so often overlooked. It’s both captivating and educational to view the thousands of facets of a dragonfly’s compound eyes or to watch a crab spider with her outstretched legs and eager chelicerae as she awaits unsuspecting prey. These beautiful and amazing sights bring me such great joy, and it is my goal to share them with others through high quality publications and archival prints.
Because of the competitive nature of the photography industry and my own meticulous, detail-oriented personality, I make every effort to produce images of the highest quality. I use a professional digital SLR camera and dedicated macro lens for the vast majority of my work, always shoot in 14-bit RAW format at the base ISO sensitivity and convert the subsequent images to 16-bit TIFFs for pixel level editing. I use a sturdy tripod, cable release and the mirror-lock-up feature whenever possible to help ensure that my photographs are tack sharp, only reverting to handheld shots when absolutely necessary. I review all of my images at 100% or more, and I permanently delete them if they do not meet my rigorous standard of excellence.
These technical elements, however, would be all for naught without artistic discretion and good old-fashioned hard work. I pour my heart and soul into creating photographs which are scientifically accurate as well as aesthetically pleasing. Composition, lighting, depth-of-field and many other factors are taken into consideration every time I press the shutter release. These aspects can’t be summed up in megapixels or computer bits, so I will leave it to the sample images in my photo galleries to demonstrate how seriously I take my work. Thank you very much for stopping by, and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
